Out & About: Gail's Bakery

Wanstead high street has been blessed with the arrival of a brand new Artisan Bakery and cafe, the well loved Gail's. Not only can you go here for your coffee, brunch or stock up on delicious baked goods but the bakery has brightened up the high street. I personally was very happy when it opened the other week, as it now means I don't have to travel far now to get a sour dough loaf when I fancy one. I still haven't got round to trying to make one at home!

I popped down for some brunch and it was packed (on a weekday!). They have done a great job renovating the old Bank, keeping the design simple but effective. The existing architectural details are allowed to shine through, including the mosaic flooring, and the sanded back walls of of lovely pastel coloured plaster and paint compliment the rustic bread. I love the use of modern signage and lighting against the walls too.

I visited on a rare summers day when the sun was out and it wasn't raining, so managed to get a seat outside. I opted for there classic scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on whole grain sourdough, washed down with a bottle of limeade (lemonade made with limes). Of course I couldn't leave empty handed either as I snapped up one of their San Francisco sourdough loafs. It didn't disappoint as I munched down with some Brie and red wine that evening.

I suggest if you are local you get down there and experience this lovely bakery and cafe yourself and support your high street. It's lovely seeing smaller business who take pride in both the produce they sell and the design of interior and exterior of their premises make the place a more beautiful one for us all!
