After an extremely busy March + April I've finally managed to get round to writing my post on Castle Combe! I managed to squeeze in a weekend away in March there so now I can tick this New years resolution off my list.
We stayed in the lovely White Hart Inn which is located just outside of Castle Combe in Ford. The Inn has been there for hundreds of years and is a delight to look at. The rooms have been designed wonderfully and since staying I have had to add a Marshall radio to my wish list!
Our room came with breakfast included, with the choice between continental or cooked breakfast. the cooked breakfast was so filling it would keep you full well into the afternoon, even after hours of walking! We ended up eating dinner there two nights in a row too, as I found out local restaurants seem to get booked up pretty quickly. Or that may have had something to do with it being Mothers day weekend. Even so the dinners were tasty and very generously sized!
After fuelling up in the morning we got ready to head off to the beautiful Castle Combe. The weather wasn't the nice sunny spring weather I was hoping for, but it didn't rain as it was forecast to so I can't complain! Wellies on and our trusty walking app out we headed off. I would highly recommend getting a walking app if you are planning on doing a little exploring as without it we wouldn't have been to any of the places we walked through, we used ViewRanger.
The walk we did was a pretty long one thought the countryside and up and down hills and VERY boggy fields. When we arrived in the picturesque Castle Combe is was pleasantly surprised with how quiet it was. Although slightly smaller then i thought it would be I had a wonderful time exploring and visiting the church. We stopped off at The Castle Inn for a shandy and some super crispy crackling and apple sauce to keep us going for the long walk home!
